Which TV shows did you start watching in 2012?
Political Animals
Emily Owens M.D.
The Mindy Project
The Killing
Slings & Arrows
The Hour
Switched at Birth

Which TV shows did you let go of in 2012?
Downton Abbey
Gossip Girl
The Hour
The Mentalist

Which TV shows did you mean to get into but didn't in 2012? Why?
Sirens. The New Girl, which I reallyreally want to watch but haven't found the time to catch up yet. Also two shows I lost track of after liking the first few episodes: Don't Trust the Bitch in Apartment 23 and Call the Midwife.

Which TV shows do you intend on checking out in 2013?
The American version of The Bridge a.k.a Diane Kruger's new show. I'll try Keri Russell's show where she's a Russian spy, but I don't really think I'll like it. Also I'm going to try out Kevin Williamson's new show even though it's, ugh, a serial killer show. And Girl Meets World, out of curiosity and nostalgia!

Which TV show impressed you least in 2012?
The Hour, Political Animals, and Arrow.

Which TV show do you think you might let go of in 2013 unless things significantly improve?
The Vampire Diaries and The Mindy Project.

Which TV shows do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why?
There is no TV show I will not let go of if it gets bad enough.

Which TV show did you enjoy the most in 2012?
My favorite new shows are Elementary and Emily Owens M.D. (which is already cancelled but unexpectedly cute and reminds me of Felicity set in a hospital), probably the best shows I've watched this year are Slings & Arrows and Borgen. I'm really enjoying The Good Wife again this season, too.

Shocked The Hour wasn't your favorite show ever to be honest.

I watched both Emily Owens and Mindy this week. I suddenly liked Emily a million times more because she plays the cello. And Mindy wasn't as grating as that Thanksgiving episode I couldn't even sit through.

What is Sirens?

Ha, I was actually momentarily annoyed during that scene because Will's "I wish you could see yourself the way I see you" interlude reminded me of the show that must not be named. It makes me sad you don't like Mamie Gummer, though!

What is Sirens?

It's a British show a bunch of people on my f'list like about paramedics, I think? The whole series is just six episodes so it's no big deal to watch, I just need to get around to it.

Sirens! Don't Trust the Bitch In Why Is This Show Title So Long! You should defffffinitely catch up on both of them, such lovely little shows.
Caitiecaitie on December 11th, 2012 01:35 am (UTC)
Yay, I'm excited to watch both of them when I get a chance. Don't Trust the B especially, although boo on Josh Jackson for ixnaying a DC reunion (although I guess it's not surprising since he and James never really liked each other)!
spadada on December 17th, 2012 04:38 am (UTC)
Is this true? I am asking my inside source!
Caitiecaitie on December 18th, 2012 05:37 pm (UTC)
I read it in an interview with Parade. They asked him about the Beeks trying to organize a reunion (on DTTB) and he was like I don't think a reunion is in the cards, but blah blah blah insert boilerplate here about how DC cast is like a family and he's increasingly grateful for that time in his life, etc.

If you meant the part about James and Josh disliking each other, I heard that via fandom. There was friction from the beginning, and then they both liked Katie Holmes... and she sort of picked Josh I guess, and it made things worse. I feel like Josh Jackson said something about it one time, but I can't remember what it was. I feel like something about how he often wanted to 'slug' James was in there. James was also unhappy about how much more popular Pacey was later on, but I think he was at peace with it down the road because Michelle Williams said he told her to look at how little screentime/story she eventually had as a blessing because it meant her image wouldn't be tied to the show. Which makes it sort of sad in a way he's playing himself on DTTB but there are worse things I suppose!

I'm right there with you re Elementary, such a great new show. I pretty much love all of the characters and dynamics already.

Caitiecaitie on December 11th, 2012 01:14 am (UTC)
I reallyreally love Watson and Sherlock and their dynamic, and the supporting cast is great too. I wish it wasn't quite so CBSy procedural, but I appreciate that they are actively trying to make it a little less so every week with little C plots that are actually relevant to my interests!

And I will definitely try out Sirens sooner or later!

Stephen Arnell is sooooooo wooden to me. I watched like five episodes hoping I'd warm to him and the entire cast, but I just didn't. I was only really watching for Katie Cassidy, though, so it's not that surprising that I didn't like it. Is it just me or is her character kind of... lameish? IDK, usually I adore her though.

er quirky is turned up to eleven and there are times when I just don't want to deal. Also, don't get discouraged by the first three episodes. It takes about that long to figure out DoucheBro is not a caricature.

Haaa, thanks for the warning.

Sirens is a British show that's just six episodes long and it stars the hot guy from Game of Thrones and is about paramedics. Ha, that's literally all I know about it (besides that people liked it a lot, even though it got cancelled).

But I love Keri, so we'll see.

I know, me too. Maybe I'll like it more than I think, I mean this season has shown that I'm not really the best judge of what shows will be good and bad based on their synopsises... synopses, w/e.

Heee, I let go of Downton Abbey, Gossip Girl and Revenge this year as well, though when I did this meme last year, I said that DA and GG were the shows that I would never let go of no matter how crappy they get!

Did you watch any of this season of Downton Abbey? What killed it for you? I watched the first three episodes, and going by those and by what I read and heard about it afterwards I'd judge this season an improvement on season two. It's just that without my even realising it, S2 sort of broke my faith in the writing of DA? So when I sat down to watch season three I found I just didn't care that much anymore.

I'm enjoying season two of The Hour though, as there's no ridic spy plot this year. What don't you like about it?

There is no TV show I will not let go of if it gets bad enough.

Lol, this is a very healthy answer. Boundaries are good etc. :)

Same as you. Season 2 was not very good and incredibly overrated in America IMHO. I wasn't looking forward to S3, and once I had the ability to watch it and saw my friends talking about it (mostly complaining about it, really) and reblogging stuff on tumblr, I was just like whatever, I'm just not interested in this show anymore.

I'm enjoying season two of The Hour though, as there's no ridic spy plot this year. What don't you like about it?

I don't really like Freddie, and yeah the cloak and dagger stuff in the first season was sooo dumb, and it really undermined the show's ability to be insightful or interesting in the newsroom. I really feel like the decision to build the show around the conspiracy plot ruined the show from the get-go, and I knew I needed to stop watching when the two most cathartic moments of the entire series for me (Bel telling Freddie she hated him, Clarence telling Freddie that their shitty episode that got The Hour cancelled was self-indulgent) weren't actually supposed to be cathartic based on what followed in those conversations. I don't like being on a completely different page from a show, it's just a recipe for frustration! I quite liked Bel, though, but her affair with Hector and the tense scenes with his wife is really the only thing I remember about the show now....

I'm surprised you're dropping The Hour! It's one of my favorite shows, but I suppose an acquired taste.
Caitiecaitie on December 11th, 2012 01:19 am (UTC)
Something about the execution of The Hour was just really off to me, I didn't really like it at all EXCEPT for Bel, who I liked a lot.

Slings and Arrows, yessss.

I couldn't get into The Hour. I see from this list that you're not watching Ben and Kate, but I really like it! You should give it a try when you ditch TMP.
spadada on December 17th, 2012 04:00 am (UTC)
Ooh! Fun! And just the distraction I need from all the emotional and painful things happening in the real world right now. Please excuse me while I weigh in :)

I liked the few eps of Emily Owens I watched. I think your assessment is spot-on! Felicity in a hospital. Or Felicity meets Grey's. Too bad CW is stupid and cancels all the wrong shows.

WATCH NEW GIRL. I laugh out loud every week and am in love with Jake Johnson (Nick). And one of my closest friends is one of the two editors on B-- in Apt 23 so definitely watch that. Plus, it's good and GIA GOODMAN :D

I might be over The Mindy Project. Which annoys me since it has promise and I am in love with Chris Messina (Danny). What can I say, I like cantankerous fictional men... But really, he is an awesome actor and the show is not doing him justice. Did you see CELESTE & JESSE FOREVER? If not, see it when it comes to DVD/Netflix.

I am two seasons behind on TVD. Think I reached my teen and/or vampire soap threshold finally.

Sadly I will always watch Grey's. I grew up on soap operas and am still too attached to many of the characters. I quit and then a few months go by and I am home sick or something and I catch up via the internet and I'm right back in it.

I agree that The Good Wife is good again. Parenthood is the Shining Star for me this year though. So, so good every week.

I will! Both shows are my kind of thing, and from tumblr gifsets I'm pretty convinced Nick is my fictional soulmate lol.

I am two seasons behind on TVD.

Honestly, that's perfect. S1 and S2 were the only decent seasons (and it was more the beginning of S2 that was good than the ending) and it's all been really downhill from there. Actually it's funny but I've already crossed TVD off my list of shows that I watch without waiting for 2013 to roll around; my tivo deleted the last four episodes to make way for Christmas movies, and I'm taking it as a sign!

I hear a lot of good things about Parenthood.

CAITIE I haven't used LJ in like a year but I just watched the last ever episode of Gossip Girl and had SO MANY FEELINGS and for some reason your LJ was the first place I looked but I saw this post and you probably don't watch GG anymore which is probably for the best

anyway, hi! <3
Caitiecaitie on December 18th, 2012 11:40 am (UTC)
Yeah I haven't watched Gossip Girl since last spring and haven't missed it. I heard that Dan is Gossip Girl which makes absolutely no sense logistically (like there are so many times Dan couldn't have sent a blast or didn't know information GG knew or worked against his own interests) or with his characterization (apparently Dan's whole life has been... performance art? and also he's a sociopath?), and also it makes Dan/Serena unfathomably disgusting?

IDEK, Gossip Girl is the worst. Nice to hear from you though!

Political Animals was at least an interesting show. I liked it.
