[Ed note: LATE AS ALWAYS. /o\ If it's true what you do on New Years sets the tone for the rest of your year, I'm already screwed! But um, Happy New Year!!!]

So this year I read War & Peace in a readalong hosted by myfriendamy. That should feel like quite an accomplishment, but I find myself somewhat ambivalent about it? Anna Karenina is one of my favorite novels, and I re-read it last year before the movie came out and liked it even more than I used to, but I didn't have nearly the same amount of love for W&P. Also the year-long readalong was fun, and I'm positive I wouldn't have finished it without that motivation, but I was always putting off other reading because I needed to finish that month's reading selection first. And in combination with how badly I procrastinated on getting the monthly reading done, I ended up reading embarrassingly little this year! So I feel like a big reading flop even though I finished War & Peace!

I really enjoy Andrew Davies adaptations, generally-speaking. He wrote the screenplays for the 1995 Pride and Prejudice most people consider to be the definitive version and the newer ITV Sense and Sensibility and Northanger Abbey, both of which are totally adorable. Fun fact: he also wrote the original British version of House of Cards. It was recently announced that he's writing a W&P miniseries for the BBC that's set to air in 2015, w00t! One actor is attached but the rest of the casting is up in the air, so I thought I'd fan!cast it for the W&P carnival. Disclaimer: I'm actually really terrible at fan casting, but I've tried my best!

My friend lisal825 ran a really fun, qt Literary Ladies fest last year. This year she's doing Literary Lads, and you have an entire month to complete your post so you should check it out and go sign up for someone. Or some four like I did, whoops.

The Good Wife crushed my hopes and dreams tonight...Collapse )

I flew through half the House of Cards (Netflix's new political show) episodes this weekend, and it is ludicrous yet entertaining. It turned out super trashy, actually? It's hard for me to imagine that Andrew Davies is in any way responsible for this because he writes such cute and delightful things usually. Anyway, I hope the last episode is all of Kevin Spacey's well-earned enemies conspiring to destroy his life.

Which TV shows did you start watching in 2012?
Smash
Political Animals
Elementary
Nashville
Emily Owens M.D.
Arrow
The Mindy Project
The Killing
Slings & Arrows
The Hour
Switched at Birth
Borgen

Which TV shows did you let go of in 2012?
Downton Abbey
Gossip Girl
Smash
Revenge
The Hour
Arrow
The Mentalist

Which TV shows did you mean to get into but didn't in 2012? Why?
Sirens. The New Girl, which I reallyreally want to watch but haven't found the time to catch up yet. Also two shows I lost track of after liking the first few episodes: Don't Trust the Bitch in Apartment 23 and Call the Midwife.

Which TV shows do you intend on checking out in 2013?
The American version of The Bridge a.k.a Diane Kruger's new show. I'll try Keri Russell's show where she's a Russian spy, but I don't really think I'll like it. Also I'm going to try out Kevin Williamson's new show even though it's, ugh, a serial killer show. And Girl Meets World, out of curiosity and nostalgia!

Which TV show impressed you least in 2012?
The Hour, Political Animals, and Arrow.

Which TV show do you think you might let go of in 2013 unless things significantly improve?
The Vampire Diaries and The Mindy Project.

Which TV shows do you think you'll never let go of no matter how crappy they get? Why?
There is no TV show I will not let go of if it gets bad enough.

Which TV show did you enjoy the most in 2012?
My favorite new shows are Elementary and Emily Owens M.D. (which is already cancelled but unexpectedly cute and reminds me of Felicity set in a hospital), probably the best shows I've watched this year are Slings & Arrows and Borgen. I'm really enjoying The Good Wife again this season, too.

I may or may not do NaBloPoMo. It has pretty awful prompts that I will definitely ignore, but I miss what LJ used to be to me, and I'd like to get in the habit of posting more regularly again, either here or on Dreamwidth.

Anyway, I just found out about this like fifteen minutes ago via [personal profile] myfriendamy so for my first post, have a picture of the pumpkins I carved for Halloween:Collapse )

Also, good luck and good vibes to everyone on my f'list attempting the much more challenging NaNoWriMo!

Oh, a new update page.

Anyway.

So this was a really fun, super fast, slightly terrifying read. I got to the middle, and then it was like I had to finish, but I was also nervous to start new chapters because each one seemed to escalate the story in a new, disturbing way! I want to talk about it, and since there's no way to talk about Gone Girl without spoiling absolutely everything, this post is full of book-ruining spoilers. Beware, etc.

Should I remove my soul before I come inside?Collapse )

I'm currently rereading the series with a couple friends, and we're always like 'where are you, where are you' trying to keep up with each other. So I thought I'd keep track of my progress this way. :)

I didn't think I was on there enough before to ask people to follow me/for your own tumblrs, but I'm on it pretty much every day now... more than I am on LJ, tbh. :/ Anyway, I figured it was time. Pls let me know if you're over there, I need more variety on my dash! I originally made this tumblr to post GG graphics to a fan community that moved from LJ to tumblr, and so my dash was, like, all Gossip Girl and TVD for a long time!

ETA: Okay ppl are following me, but I don't know who 80% of you are! Tell me if your tumblr name is super different from your LJ name!

This doesn't premiere until mid-June, but the pilot is available to watch early via TV Line. It's Amy-Sherman Palladino's new show, so you know, that is both a good thing and a bad thing.

Warning: There's a pretty major spoiler in this post -- major enough that if you're at all interested in watching the show that I don't think you should read this until you have.

Bunheads pilotCollapse )

So far I'm thinking my summer shows will be River Monsters (I looove that stupid show), SYTYCD, Bunheads, Newsroom (the new Aaron Sorkin show on HBO), Political Animals, and Royal Pains. Oh, and I'll catch up on S2 of The Killing once it's finished its run.

I want to talk about S1 of The Killing for a sec, actually.

The Killing S1. No spoilers.Collapse )

Finally! My confirmation e-mail was so slow, I think it must have been actualfax delivered by an owl.

I don't know if I'll end up playing the full game (probably not), but I reallyreally wanted to be ~officially sorted~ by JKR's method since I've never really felt like I fit into any particular house. And lol, now I have been:

I still feel like this is a little bit wrong, to be honest. The traits I value the most are loyalty and intelligence. Even the better portrayals of Slytherins in the book featured a lot of self-interested, self-aggrandizing behavior that I don't like or relate to. I feel like I'm too idealistic to be a Slytherin! But I know I'm not a Hufflepuff. I was kind of relieved not to be a Ravenclaw because even though I got sorted there a lot in the meme that went around a year ago, I'm kind of urgh about academia and have always been a super lazy student. Also, I'd always be locked out of the common room if I had to answer a philosophical question to get into it, lbr. And while I'd love to be a Gryffindor since all of my faves from the book are Gryffindors, I'm not brave, and I think things through (read: overthink!) before I do them. So w/e, I guess maybe Slytherin is the best fit.

So. Look what is deleted and soon-to-be purged: caitie! Y/N? I sort of hate LiveJournal a lot lately, tho.

You guys, ugh, why was last night the Chris Brown Appreciation Grammys? People do realize that Rihanna was unable to perform at the Grammys three years ago because of what he did to her, right? I hate everything. And this is upsetting. I was sad Kanyesus skipped out, but they didn't present Best Rap Album and he was flagrantly snubbed for Album of the Year, so I can't really blame him. I was happy to watch Adele sweep everything, though.

I watched Smash, which was okayish but the cast is too white for a show set in NYC. I am super excited for this week's Revenge. S2 of Downton is about as blah as I heard. Mostly I just want Awake to air and The Good Wife to come back immediately.

This is a proper Gossip Girl post for 5x13 and 5x14, I guess.

My take on Blair"s S5 weirdness, in which I use the word "power" way too much!Collapse )

Anyway. Bad news, guys, I learned to make gifs! It wasn't that hard, but it's pretty time consuming. I'm suddenly glad I accidentally managed to buy a computer without a DVD drive, otherwise I'd be addicted.
